Ever see a photographer who starts out with a 365 day project, or even a 52 week project and never finishes? Yeah, me too. Well, I recently joined a group of a few other busy photographers who decided to commit to a 12 month project! If we fail this, we’ll be taking donations for a time management seminar. The best part is that it will be totally candid, lifestyle shots of each of our own families/lives. We don’t even have to dredge up random people or make our kids pose for us. We’re calling the series “The Story of ________” and we’ll each be filling in our own blanks. At the end of this post is a link to another photographer who participated and she’ll be linking to someone else. It’s a whole big circle of stories in pictures. Click through and enjoy!

The Story of Orange Julius

One of the most simple and most favorite of our Christmas traditions is drinking our Orange Julius just before opening gifts. It is such a sweet little treat that fills me up every year with anticipation and excitement. The best part is introducing it to my kids. My son gulped down his first glass and two more immediately after.

Here is our family recipe:

6 oz (half) can of frozen orange juice concentrate

1 cup milk

1 cup water

4 T sugar

1 tsp. vanilla

10-12 crushed ice cubes

serves 4 or so…

Let me preface by saying that I really do NOT like these kinds of shots (with half color, half black and white: it usually distracts from the main subject) but thought it would be fun for this particular picture. Enjoy as you will doubtfully ever see anything like this from me again!!

The Story of their ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZs

I love watching my babies sleep. They look so peaceful and I’m always looking at the positions they get into and wondering who they look like when they sleep. When I see them asleep I think I fall even deeper in love with her sweet curls, his puffy lips, and the angelic expressions that rest on their faces.  I took these over several naps and bedtimes the last few days.

This awesome mama truly has a few good men in her life. First there’s her amazing hubby who has already served one tour and is about to go back for another.

Then there’s this little guy…he’s such a cutie. I got to shoot him as a newborn and I was beyond ecstatic to see him again.

and you know a family that has such wonderful men in it has got to have a seriously fabulous mama to hold them together and that would be this mama!!

A beautiful family with such a great story so far. I am happy to get to document it all.

Kara Layfield: Love the last shot! Such a cute family!

This is my first time entering the “I heart faces” photo challenge (click the camera button below the image for details).  This week’s theme is black (no black and whites allowed).  I love this one of my sweet girl. She feels so free and unhindered…dancing to the music in her heart.

Sure, I love driving around and scouting out new locations, but I can’t take any credit for these awesome finds. I’m sure they are known to people who shoot downtown more, but as someone who shoots in homes a lot or looks for fields I was totally digging this area. My gorgeous client is responsible for showing me these great spots. I can not wait to meet the stylish little lady who should make her appearance around Christmas.

This little sweetie was perfect.  The perfect sleeper, the perfect poser, and the perfect lady (no messes!!!).  She made my job look easy and I fell so head over heals that I was sad to leave her. How lucky am I to hold a family’s new little baby and spend some time with them in that new phenomenon of a family just becoming?

This was a very special family for me. There is a long back story about them (you can read their blog here) but basically the amazing mama of this baby girl had a miscarriage around the same time that she unexpectedly lost her sister. The mama got pregnant and shortly after started the process of becoming the legal parents of her niece (the middle girl on the left).  They are a sweet, amazing, caring, and fun family. I’m so blessed that I got to take the new little miracle’s newborn pictures. What a sweet time that probably is too crazy to even take stock, but at least they have these images to cherish forever.

I had so much fun with this little guy!  He has two older sisters and they are totally in love with this little guy. His mama was so wonderful to come up to Denver for his pictures. He was a cute little guy that was a surprise breech…and a homebirth to boot!  Yup, his mama is amazing. She’s also a good friend of mine. Meet her new little guy, Trevor:

Nicole: I LOVE them all. Bree you did such an amazing job!!! Your love and passion for photography really show in your photographs! Thanks Again Bree:)

Almost fall

October 5, 2011

I had so much fun photographing this family! They not only dressed well, but they were so easy to pose and shoot. I caught some of my favorite images of this family just interacting together. They were not only a really sweet family, but their handsome little guy stole my heart with his shy and endearing smile. Swoon!!! Meet the K family:

Kara Layfield: Love these...especially the middle of the entire family. I can so see that printed LARGE on a wall!

Laura Morita-Yeun: these are beautiful. Love all of them, but have to agree that the family one is seriously incredible.
